  1. My daughter and her kids are headed for Florida tomorrow at 5am. She didn't give much time to research this. She doesn't have a CHL (even though I have strongly suggested it). Are there any states along the way where she would need to be concerned about having a weapon in her vehicle?
  2. I Have a large worn out American flag from the Pizza Hut/KFC corporate headquarters that is available to any Scout troop that needs to do a flag retirement. LMK

  4. A storm sewer empties into a creek behind our house and at night the rats come out in force. Last year I tried multiple layers of bird netting around my plants thinking that they would get tangled up in it. Didn't work. Then I tried fox urine from Wells Brothers. Didn't seem to help much either. This year I built a wire enclosure. Probably a waste of time and money but we shall see. I read that 1 part boric acid mixed with 2 parts peanut butter will kill them but it will probably kill pets also.
  5. They need to hire someone who actually can run a sound system and it's not because I'm an old geezer. My daughter took her 7 month old and got her far away from the stage. Way too much high end.
  6. Sharkarosa Wildlife Ranch in Pilot Point. My grandkids love the place. Dirty Jobs featured them in one and a half episodes last year. It's on the way to Lake Ray Roberts so we usually start out at the ranch and then go to the state park. Keep in mind that they are only open to the public on Saturdays. http://www.sharkarosa.com/

    380 Greenbelt

Anyone know if the bike trails at the 380 greenbelt are paved or are they dirt/gravel?
  8. Do you and what makes you think i don't? It is posslble to do both.
  9. KHYI is collecting donations for the tornado victims in Joplin. The drop off point is Love and War in Texas on the NE corner of central and Plano Parkway across from the radio station. Collection will go on until 6:00 pm tomorrow (Thursday). I’m running some diapers, water, toothbrushes etc. up there tomorrow. If you would like to donate but can’t make it there by 6:00 tomorrow send me a PM and I’ll send you my address. I know very well what it’s like to loose everything you own.
  10. I really want a Viking grill but I'll have to hit the lottery before that happens.
  11. The one thing I miss about living in Galveston was the 4 block walk to the liquor store and the neighborhood bar. The Liquor store was called West End Grocery and was run by two elderly Jewish ladies. The only groceries they sold were bread and milk. Everyone considered both places to just be a part of the neighborhood and never gave them a second thought.
  12. Yeah Sam’s Club grills look nice and have a lot of features but after you have one for a while you find out just how poorly made they are. The stainless steel is very thin and the non stainless parts rust through quickly. The metal on mine was so thin that the front and back started bowing out and the cooking grate would fall through the opening. It also doesn’t get hot enough to sear meat. Fortunately I was able to find a source for parts and have managed to keep it somewhat functional.
  13. Try to find a place that teaches Aikido. They teach primarily grappling techniques and that’s what most fights turn in to. Aikido is popular with a lot of police departments. When my second oldest son was taking Aikido and Shotokan he could put me on the floor with a wrist lock. He was 10 at the time and I was benching just under 300 pounds so…….it works.

I got home from work about 7:00 this morning. At about 7:15 there was a knock at the door. A young girl (maybe 13 or 14 years old) was standing there. She said “I think it is going to rainâ€. I had no clue why she would be standing at my door telling a complete stranger this so I went into the “deer in the headlights†state for a few seconds. She then said “If it rains you need to put your bike in the garageâ€. We have a motor scooter in the driveway. By this time I came to the realization that she appeared to be somewhat mentally challenged. I thanked her and said I would tell my son and she went on her way to school. The more I thought about this the more it concerned me. We have some really really bad people in my neighborhood and she really should not be knocking on strangers doors. Should I try to contact her parents? My daughter’s boyfriend says he sees her walking home in the afternoon. Should I just have my daughter talk to her? Better yet – I live in the 500 block of Ridgemont Dr. If any of y’all think you may know her please talk to her parents. I'm guessing on her age. I could be way off. She had very curly brown hair is about the only way i can describe her
